If you have never been to Brockenhurst then add it to your 'to visit' list because it is lovely. Think cream tea and cake shops. Think old style sweetie shops (remember Victory V's and Fruit Salads?). It's all here in the middle of the New Forest with wild ponies grazing outside your hotel!
Simply Poussin is behind the high street and is just as delightful. A small restaurant attracting an older clientele, it is run with efficieny by AJ, the manager.
Lunch offers include three courses for £15.50 and the a la carte options are reasonably priced considering the high quality of the food here. I had a crab torellini as a starter, which was rich and succulent although slightly small portion wise. My Guinea Fowl main course was perfectly cooked and juicy. You can check out sample menus on their website.
I finished off with a range of local cheeses, each one washed down with a wine or ale to match it perfectly, as chosen by AJ.
The restaurant gets a little quiet when the majority of tables have left and they could do with some background music to improve the ambience but overall a lovely experience and highly recommended to visit. Just make sure you go for a long walk in the beautiful countryside to walk off the calories!
