The Mitre has recently been done up and had a facelift. We'd heard that the food had also had a facelift and was getting a good reputation. So we went on Friday evening.
And the rumours were right. We had a superb meal. Started the meal with smoked haddock and duck egg - absolutely delicious, and very generous portions. Followed by a game pie (pie of the day) which was a real gem. Only fault - it was huge!
The service was top marks - really attentive and very friendly.
In an area where prices can rise, portions can be small and generally mediocre, this place seems to have hit the mark. Other seem to have agreed as it was really busy. Meaning it was a very noisey dinner. But am planning my return already.
